Estella, 19, loves everything about basketball: the culture; the fashion; the music; but most of all she loves to play. Although she is now competing at a high level, Estella is not your typical basketball player and has faced a few challenges along the way. She’s shorter than average – not ideal for a basketball player – and also suffers from asthma, but she was determined not to let these disadvantages stand in her way. For Estella, sport and the support of her team mates at Bristol Storm have helped her to understand her body better and improved her asthma symptoms along the way. Estella says “Knowing what I have to combat every time I play makes me even more determined to work my hardest. I thought why not defy the stereotype and just try and be the best I can be”.
