In 2010 I was unhappy with my life and wasn’t looking after my body. Pole dance was something I had always wanted to try, but with no strength, coordination or dance background I didn’t believe I would be capable. Then I found a flyer advertising a taster session and went along.
As an adult I’ve struggled with exercise and find motivating myself difficult. Before pole, I hadn’t found a form of exercise that worked for me and was beginning to think there wasn’t one.I was expecting pole to build my strength but never expected it to build my confidence too. After suffering with anxiety and body image issues, pole has given me the tools to focus on and love my body for what it can do over what it looks like.
With support from my instructors and the good friends I have met through pole, I have performed at shows and entered competitions.
Pole dance has played a huge part in getting me through life’s tough times and been invaluable to my physical and mental health.
Don’t be afraid to try new things until you find what’s right for you.
