I’d tried a bit of archery before whilst working with young people. When my job changed focus I had evenings free and so in May 2016 I signed up for a Beginners course.
I’d been very active at school but done very little since then. Approaching 40 I decided I needed to do something.
I shoot twice a week and now also enter tournaments occasionally on weekends and we have lots of social events. I have made a new circle of friends and enjoy challenging myself to shoot further distances and with more accuracy. It’s doing my mental and physical health the world of good.
Archery is a great sport to get into. It can be great at the end of a stressful day to go and shoot some arrows and focus your mind on something completely different. The archery community is friendly and made up of people of all ages so I have met a variety of people I wouldn’t normally meet. We have monthly ‘Have a Go’ session for anyone who wants to give it a try!
At 40 I thought I’d never be a sportswoman, but it’s never too late to try something new! There are so many clubs and activities going on around the area – you just need to make the first step and get out there!
